I could not resist commenting on Blair’s farewell tour of Africa. Having spent a great deal of time in Africa through my work and family, I am all too aware of the harsh conditions African face on a daily basis. Which is why I am appalled by Blair’s cavorting farewell tour of the region, which can only be described as one big photo opportunity. Instead of posing for photos, Blair should be focusing on the issues that matter such as, the endemic poverty facing Africa’s people, the ongoing bloodshed in Darfur, preventing diseases such malaria and addressing the appalling situation in Zimbabwe.
While Blair enjoys the hospitality of his African hosts, one wonders whether he even recalls the objective of his other great piece of African spin, his ‘Commission for Africa’.
